A day will be dedicated to celebrate the 80-year history of the Yarmouth International Airport.
Several events are planned for Saturday September 9th.
Coordinator Linda Deveau says those include a breakfast hosted by the Tri-County Flying Club.
“There will be multiple exhibits in the terminal building, there will be tours of the tower, the Air Cadet League and the Lions Club will be hosting a banquet and then we have the Starlight Runway Run. The runway lights will be turned off and we’ll have a 1k and a 5k run.”

The airport site has a rich history.
Airport manager Mike Fields says it played an integral role as the world watched the rise to power of the Nazis in Germany.
“In 1936 the Department of National Defence selected the site in Yarmouth for Maritime patrol aircraft and then in ’37 they built the facilities dividing it into East Camp for the Brits and West Camp for the Canadians.”
Fields says today, while there are currently no regularly scheduled passenger flights, the Yarmouth International Airport is a busy facility.
“We have everything from government, medivac flights, search and rescue, corporate, charter and private flights.”
Fields says in 2014 the airport recorded 1,160 runs. In 2016 there were 1675. A run is described as a take off and landing.
