It’s back to school for students across the Tri-Counties today.
That means there’s a chance you’ll encounter a school bus on your commute this morning or later this afternoon.
The Director of Operations at the Tri-County Regional School Board reminds motorists to be cautious and follow the rules around school bus safety.
Steve Stoddart says red light violations have been a problem.
“We did have 20 less violations during the last school year compared to the previous one, so that may be a good sign. However we still had way too many at 275.”
Stoddart says he hopes people are getting the message, and he hopes everyone is careful, especially this first week when younger kids are excited and running to the bus.
It is illegal to pass a school bus with its lights flashing.
Cameras have been installed in most buses with hopes of catching offenders more effectively.
A violation can bring a maximum fine of $1,272.
