Nova Scotia’s Education minister says there are solid policies in place in schools governing smoking and using alcohol.
Zach Churchill says they also apply to marijuana.
He tells Acadia News the province made sure the rules applied for when cannabis became legalized today.
“For the majority of students who are under the legal age, it’ll still be an illegal activity as well as being against the rules that we have in place.”
Churchill doesn’t think that legalization will “normalize” marijuana use for young people.
He says it’s about informing parents and students about the risks associated with smoking pot, in the same manner that’s done with tobacco and alcohol.
