A Yarmouth County man has been charged with extortion, fabricating evidence and public mischief.
33 year old Andrew James Chetwynd of Eel Brook was arrested on Wednesday.
This after a months long investigation which began in March of last year.
Police say a woman told them she had been contacted by someone who was demanding money from her.
She was being told that this man was in possession of a computer she once owned, and was telling her she needed to pay him to recover photos he allegedly found on the computer, which were child pornography.
After the investigation, it was determined that no such photos ever existed, but the accused had attempted to make it look as though they did.
Chetwynd was released on conditions and ordered to have no contact with the victim.
He is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on February 12.
