After some discussion, the Municipality of Argyle voted last night in favour of helping a local fire department pay for a new
well.
The well used by the Islands and District Fire Department ran dry.
The department serves the communities of Surette’s Island, Morris Island and Sluice Point.
The well was used to fill the fire trucks and supplied water to the fire hall.
But the Councillor for the district, Guy Surette says residents were also relying on it for potable water and to fill their toilets.
“Great news, council voting in favour of giving funds in the amount of $2,000 to help dig the well. It’s just unbelievable. I’m elated I can tell the residents of the district. It’s been dug, we have roughly eight or nine feet of water in there.”
Surette says he’s grateful to his fellow Councillors for doing the right thing.
Although the vote was unanimous, some Councillors were concerned providing the $2,000 to the fire department might set a precedent.
