A new lobster processing facility is coming for the Municipality of Shelburne.
Construction should begin this spring in the industrial park.
China company First Catch Fisheries will open the facility later this year on 2.5 acres of land.
Warden Penny Smith says this will create jobs.
“They will require 40 employees at start-up after construction, and upwards of 100 employees at full capacity. And we know the company is looking to hire locally.”
Smith believes this will encourage other companies to start up business in the park.
Smith says the company did their homework on finding the world’s best lobster.
“They aren’t sitting idly by while they finalize building plans either. They are building their China customer sales and transportation logistics now, In the past two weeks, the company has sent three Boeing 747 charter flights with live lobsters to China.”
She says the land sale alone generated over $200,000 for the municipality, and will continue to generate tax revenue.
