A recent study from Stats Canada has found 11 percent of 15-24 year olds will deal with depression in their lifetime with 7 percent experiencing depression over the last year.
Roughly 6 percent of those who took part in the study reported having suicidal thoughts at some point.
That works out to roughly 5 percent of all Canadians between that age group, or approximately 234,000 young Canadians.
Suicide was the second leading cause of death for young Canadians between 15 to 24 years old.
Suicidal thoughts and depression are more common among young women than men.
The study also found those who don’t deal well with stress were more likely to experience some form of depression.
Roughly 60 percent of young Canadians dealing with depression sought help over the last year.
