Tuesday afternoon in Yarmouth, MLA Zach Churchill promised $8,700 for a ‘Loose Parts Unstructured Play Project’.
The sites are planned for Yarmouth Central School, Carleton School, Port Maitland School and Acadia First Nations Headstart.
Churchill says it’s an important development for kids in the area.

“It’s better for kids to help them be creative, active and to create little adventures for them to engage with on these playgrounds. It’s an exciting development, and we are happy to provide close to $9,000 to make this happen.”
The loose parts involve nontraditional playground equipment like stumps, logs and tires, along with a mud kitchen and sand.
Early Years Centre educator Sheri Doucette says this a great initiative.
“We know it will benefit everyone in the school that gets an opportunity to play on this side. On the weekends, we notice when we come back our toys will be moved around so the community is taking advantage of this play space. We hope the community will use this play-space.”
The playground at central will be located on the Collins Street side of the school.
