New affordable housing is ready in Yarmouth County.
The provincial and federal governments announcing today that the development at Hebron Heights is now open.
West Nova MP Colin Fraser says $400,000 was invested through both governments.
“The federal portion being $225,000. It will provide affordable housing for nine seniors, individuals or families.”
The $1.6 million building features eight one-bedroom plus den units and a one-bedroom unit.
Yarmouth MLA and Municipal Affairs Minister Zach Churchill says this contributes to a provincial plan.
“This is part of a provincial strategy aimed at reducing a wait-list for those trying to get into affordable housing. That list is pretty large right now. We’ve been able to reduce it by about ten per cent. Having a facility like this will help us do that even further.”
Innovative building technologies in the units allow for energy savings up to 80 per cent.
Construction began last year as part of the social housing portfolio owned by the province.
