Matt Lapointe scored two goals in the last two minutes to lift the Amherst Ramblers over the Yarmouth Mariners 3-2.
Lapointe’s winner came with 40 seconds left in front of a stunned crowd of over 1,200.
The Mariners led 1-0 after the first on a goal by Connor Peveril, and re-took the lead in the third on Noah McMullin’s goal.
But it was the Ramblers who had the last laugh, winning for just the second time in six tries against Yarmouth this season.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron was disappointed after the Mariners third loss in four games to start 2017.
“No excuses. You can say it was a tough two games in two nights with travel, but we found a way to lose rather than a way to win. I thought defensively we were pretty good tonight. We had one missed assignment there at the end and got outnumbered on a back-check. Some guys got out-skated to our net, and we paid the ultimate price.”
Justin Ritcey took the loss in goal and Darryl MacCallum was the winning goaltender for Amherst.
The Ramblers moved within five points of the Mariners for second in the Eastlink South Division, and the Mariners stayed three points back of the Crushers for first.
Yarmouth is back on home ice tomorrow night against the Truro Bearcats at 7:30.
