Several fundraisers have been created to cover funeral costs and support the family of Jim Buchanan.
The Shelburne County man, known by friends as ‘Big Jim’ or the ‘gentle giant’, passed away suddenly on January 7.
Buchanan was on the fishing vessel, ‘Secret Sea’, when he fell overboard.
The crew were able to recover him quickly but he did not survive the incident.
A GoFundMe page is collecting money online and a memorial fund has been created at Scotia Bank.
Buchanan’s obituary remembers him as an avid woodsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and peaceful walks by himself.
He is survived by his wife Lisa, and three children.
