Their church may be gone but members of the congregation of Holy Cross Anglican Church in Lockeport will host a special service
this Sunday.
The building was demolished after being heavily damaged by fire in late May.
The service will be held in a park across from where the church once stood.
It is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Elizabeth Pooley is a member of the congregation and a parish warden.
She says Right Rev. Ron Cutler, bishop of the diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, will be the officiant.
“Every several years the bishop comes around to parishes in the dioceses and it just so happened that his visit this year falls on Holy Cross Day which is a celebration of the church and its congregation.”
Pooley says it is a service to honour the history of the church and she hopes residents of Lockeport will turn out.
She says Holy Cross is deeply rooted in the community.
Pooley says Holy Cross will be rebuilt on the same site.
“We have two proposals which will be sent to contractors next week for estimates. We will then go to the congregation and ask them which they would prefer us to pursue and then we would have to get a detailed estimate and take that to the insurance company for them to sign off on it.
