The executive director of the Tri-County Women’s Centre in Yarmouth says it’s always a challenge to find stable funding for the host
of programs it offers.
This year they have set as one priority, the establishment of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program.
They hope to have that up and running by April.
The centre also wants to establish a program to engage Mi’kmaq women and take the ‘Youth Truth Matters’ initiative to another level.
Bernadette Macdonald says it’s an ongoing process of applying for funding.
“Our Leahey Wellness Clinic… our funding there is not stable yet. We’re still negotiating and discussing with the health authority. There’s a difference to what they’re willing to offer and what we feel we need. So, you know, we go from one year to the next. Our budget is quite squeaky tight.”
The Tri-County Women’s Centre does have some operational funding that allows it to maintain the centre in Yarmouth and its two
outreach offices in Shelburne ands Digby.
