A new year will hopefully bring a new outlook on negotiations.
That’s according to Liette Doucet, president of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union.
Doucet says now that the holidays are over, she’s looking foward to getting a contract signed.
“The government hasn’t been willing to negotiate. I know we’ve been negotiating for about a year and a half now, but really, we haven’t. So, it would be nice to see that start and come to some conclusion soon.”
Doucet says the NSTU is working to get a contract for teachers and ending the work-to-rule action.
“They’re not enjoying work-to-rule. They’re not used to just focusing on curriculum – which is what they do everyday however, they always do more. They always go above and beyond and they’re not used to not doing that. They don’t like the position that they are in.”
Doucet says the next step is for government and the NSTU to agree on dates to meet with a conciliator.
She expects those meetings will take place in the next couple of weeks.
