Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron describes what the additions will bring to the team.
“Alex Mann is a smooth skating, right shot defenseman who is one of the best d-men in the league. Max Robitaille is a ball of fire out there. He was South Shore’s second leading scorer this season.”
It was learned over the holidays that goaltender Brendan Cregan joined the Sherbrooke Phoenix of the QMJHL, so Yarmouth filled his spot with 20 year old goalie Justin Ritcey from the Valley Wildcats.
Going the other way are a pair of conditional draft picks in 2018, the rights to Yarmouth native Colby Muise and cash.
The Mariners also announced that forward Jalen Gillard has joined the team.
Gillard has not played this season, but the former Newfoundland Major Midget MVP recently showed interest in coming to Yarmouth.
Barron says Mariners fans should be excited.
“We’ve got a roster now with 14 forward, seven defensemen and two goaltenders that we think is pretty strong. We have to get the chemistry together with all these new guys, but we think we’re real close.”
The Mariners have a pair of home games this weekend, Friday night against Truro and Saturday versus Campbellton.
