The warden of the Municipality of Clare says they are hoping to showcase the Cape St. Mary’s lighthouse in the near future.
The federal government has divested ownership to the municipality and it wants to turn the property into a municipal park.
Warden Ronnie LeBlanc says it’s among the priorities for next year.
“Fisheries has given us $70,000 to do some remedial work on it and we are looking for other funding partners to develop it further. For those who haven’t had a chance to go to the lighthouse in Cape St. Mary’s, it’s a beautiful area with a fantastic view.”
Warden Leblanc says the main priority is securing broadband Internet access.
“It’s more than just to watch Netflix and have access to Facebook. If you look at our location, I think high-speed Internet is an economic tool for us.
In order to promote as an economic driver we need high-speed Internet to encourage businesses to set up shop in our municipality.”
He says they have been working closely with the municipalities of Digby, Argyle and Yarmouth.
LeBlanc says the second big priority for the Municipality of Clare is a fire hall for St. Bernard.
