A local family is aiming to help the Ronald McDonald House in Halifax.
They will try to fill a van full of food, toys, games and more this Saturday.
It’s a way of giving back for Ann Harrington and her children Kate Harrington and Josh Cochrane.
Kate and Josh have spent over 1400 nights at the house for their IWK appointments, saving their family over $182,000.
Kate says it’s an important cause for her.
“I just love helping people, and seeing the smiles on their faces and how happy they are. I’ve spent many nights at Ronald McDonald House, it’s really nice there.”
Ann says they noticed the house was running low on some items, and that’s when they knew they wanted to help.
“Josh said, ‘why don’t we do a fill a van? I said what do you mean? He said we can collect items, fill a van, and the next time we come to the IWK, bring them up for the Ronald McDonald House? I said that’s a great idea!”
The event is scheduled for 11am-3pm behind Staples in Yarmouth.
They will donate the items when they head back to the IWK on January 4th, in memory of Josh’s friend Marlie, who passed away earlier this year.
The van was donated by Murray Dodge in Yarmouth.
