A long-time pharmacist in downtown Yarmouth is retiring this week.
Jim MacLeod began working in the field in July, 1958 at Central Pharmacy.
MacLeod has been with Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave since 1970 when it was called Trask Drugs.
He talks about what drew him to the profession.
“I wanted to be on Main Street and I wanted to be in the profession. My first and only job at Central Pharmacy working with my mentors Russell Judge and Richard Dick Judge allowed me to be a professional on Main Street. I loved to meet and greet and say hello to people.”
Now after a nearly 60 year career, MacLeod has decided to step away from his full-time duties.
“I’m going to miss seeing staff and customers on a regular basis. I’ll see them on the street or in the shop occasionally. I have lots and lots of memories to keep me busy for a while.
He says you might see him back behind the counter now and then, and at the table at Yarmouth town council, where he was just elected to his second consecutive term.
