Officials at the Yarmouth Regional hospital say their priority is to resume MRI services in the wake of last weekend’s flooding.
The Nova Scotia Health Authority held a news conference this morning at the facility.
Tricia Cochrane, VP of Integrated Services says they were fortunate the damage was limited to Building B.
“The emergency department is operating normally. There has been no significant impact to surgical and inpatient areas other than mental health and addictions.”
Peggy Green is the Director of Health Services for the Western Zone.
She says at around 1am on Saturday December 17, a frozen pipe burst in a utility room of Building B, flooding all five floors
including the basement.
“There are a number of programs and services affected. Mental health and addictions, diagnostic imaging, public health, human resources, finance, cafeteria and dining room, as well as 14 private physician offices. There was extensive water damage to ceilings, floors and walls. Some areas are worse than others.”

Medical Executive Director, Dr Alenia Kysela, says the flood has not impacted most doctor services.
Kysela says they have found temporary clinic space for the next two weeks and are working on longer-term solutions.
As repairs and remediation continue for the next several months, the public will not be able to access Building B, which is often used as a thoroughfare between Building A and Building C, because it will be a construction site.
Appointments for MRIs are being rescheduled due to flooding in the area that houses the equipment, and will be re-booked as quickly as possible,
