It’s that time of year again to add spring cleaning to your list of chores. Whether it’s getting rid of old clothes or dusting off surfaces it’s time to clean out your home for the summer to come. When I was a kid I dreaded chores of any kind, dishes, laundry, you name it, I hated it.
Now as an adult I actually find joy in some of them… others not so much.
But of course as adults, whether we like it or not we have to get them done. I’ve found over the years that a self reward is what works for me. finishing the dishes and allowing myself to eat a snack after for example.
Sometimes putting on music will literally get you in the groove to get the job done! Or of course there is the simple yet gratifying satisfaction of just knowing the task is done. When I finish things like the dishes. looking around and not finding a single dirty dish around my apartment is such a gratifying feeling I almost feel guilty if I use any dishes after!
Turning tasks into a game is another classic strategy, Set times to beat, amount of items cleared or thrown out in a certain amount of time etc.
Another great way to trick your brain into wanting to get stuff done is by wearing shoes. Indoor or outdoor, it is believed wearing shoes it triggers your brain into thinking it is time to get tasks done rather than lounge around.
What chores do you enjoy? What ones do you not like doing? Whatever they are, remember to make them fun!
