It’s Groundhog Day!
Shubenacadie Sam in Nova Scotia didn’t make an official prediction. An annual event held in Shubenacadie was called off due to bad weather on Monday, but that means he won’t see his shadow because he stayed in his burrow. Folklore says that means an early spring.
On the south shore of Nova Scotia, in Barrington Passage, residents rely on a prediction from Lucy the Lobster. She also didn’t see her shadow.
Wiarton Willie, the albino groundhog in Ontario, followed suit, predicting an early spring, and so did Fred LaMarmotte in Quebec.
Meantime, Punxsutawney Phil, Balzac Billy and Manitoba Merv, the groundhog puppet, all saw their shadows. saw their shadows. They’re predicting six more weeks of winter.
