A different look for the Yarmouth Mariners.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron completed a big trade on Thursday.
He acquired defender Nick Macissac, forward Malcolm MacDonald and a first round pick from the Chaleur Lightning for the rights to forward Sam Rocca.
Barron says the two new players will make their debut Saturday night, as the Mariners host Chaleur.
“Super excited to get these guys, two very good hockey players. We’re also lucky enough to get a first-rounder and futures. This is a good hockey trade for us,” said Barron.
Another recent addition is goaltender Maxime Giguere, who got his first win as a Mariner last Friday night.
He’s the son of Stanley Cup winning goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
‘We feel we’re a playoff team’
Barron promised change after a pair of blowout losses on home-ice two weeks ago.
The Mariners went on the road to northern New Brunswick last weekend and picked up five of a possible six points through Campbellton, Chaleur and Miramichi.
“I thought we had a great weekend, we were short-staffed but everyone was pulling their weight. We feel like we’re a playoff team. We are a club that’s better than our record, and we want to show everyone that that’s true.”
The Mariners will host the Pictou County Crushers on Sunday in their final home game of 2025.
Yarmouth sits three points back of the Crushers for the last playoff spot in the division.
“It’s a four-point game. Every game in our division from here on out is big. It wasn’t the start we wanted to the season, but I feel like the switch was turned on last weekend.”
The Mariners are also gearing up to host the MHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, December 10, and a Yarmouth Mariners Alumni Game on December 9.
Tickets for those events are on sale at the Mariners Centre box office.
