I could never understand standing in line overnight or since the crack of dawn just to be pushed and shoved or trampled in some extreme cases only to save some money on a TV or big ticket item before Christmas.
What’s the rational understanding of Black Friday ?
According to Wikipedia : The earliest evidence of the phrase Black Friday originated in Philadelphia , dating back to 1961, where it was used by police to describe the heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic that would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.
Black Friday is a shopping day for a combination of reasons. As the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas, it marks the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Additionally, many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday week-end in the USA. In order to take advantage of this, virtually all retailers in the country, big and small, offer various sales including limited amounts of “doorbuster” items to entice traffic.
Starting way back in 2008 and 2009, due to the parity of the Canadian dollar compared with the American dollar, several major Canadian retailers ran Black Friday deals of their own to discourage shoppers from leaving Canada.

Personally. I am a Local shopper , I support the local business in my area and will take advantage of the sales available in my area . One of the downfalls to shopping Black Friday in a town v/s a City can be availability of product , the store may advertise the $100.00 TV but only have 2 in stock whereas the City store may have 50 in stock.
