The Yarmouth Mariners split their weekend home games.
They beat the North Division’s top team, the Grand Falls Rapids 5-3 on Friday night.
Yarmouth then fell 5-2 to the Truro Bearcats on Sunday afternoon.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron assessed his team’s performance.
“I thought it was maybe our best 60 minutes of the year on Friday night. Today (Sunday) we ran into a hot goaltender. Their goalie was fantastic and he was definitely the first star of the game,” said Barron.
Grayson Pardy scored twice Friday including the game-winner, Cole MacLeod also had two goals and Keegan Warren got the win in net.
But Sunday, the Mariners couldn’t rally back against Truro, Barron says there were too many mistakes.
“Self-inflicted wounds. We made too many sloppy plays in our own end, and our penalty kill which has been good this year was not good enough today.”
The Mariners are now 8-9-1-1 on the season, and are tied with the Crushers for fourth place in the South Division.
They meet Pictou County at home this Friday.
