(We spoke with Don Houston at 8:30 Thursday morning)
Parts of the Tri-Counties could get up to 30 cms of snow over the next 36 hours.
Combined with high winds and very cold temperatures, driving will be treacherous.
Don Houston with the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation in Yarmouth says conditions are quickly going
from bad to worse.
“It seems to be a mix. Shelburne’s saying they’re getting a dusting. It’s a little worse in the Clyde area. The roads have been salted there. As you get closer to Yarmouth there’s been heavier squalls. it’s almost to the point where we’re going to have to be out plowing.”
Houston says it’s a different story in Clare.
In the Saulnierville area there’s anywhere between 3 sand 6 inches, the worse being in the St. Bernard area. They’re in full plow mode up there with all the heavy gear. The 101 is definitely going to be a little trying up that way.”
Wet roads overnight, cold temps and light snow this morning making for a slippery commute. Give yourself and others plenty of space.

He says their forecast models indicate lots of snow.
“We’re forecasting about 30 centimetres in the next 36 hours or so. With the winds, that’s going to make for some real visibility problems.”
Houston says at those temperatures salt won’t work so they’ll be using a combination of salt and sand.
He says that’s only for traction and won’t melt the ice because it’s too cold.
