A big honour for a family in Yarmouth.
The road in front of Mariners Centre is being named ‘Clayton Way.’
It’s to recognize manager Dave Clayton’s 50 years of service at the old arena and Mariners Centre.
After a presentation at centre ice at Saturday night’s Mariners game, Clayton said it was an honour.
“I think what the Clayton family loves so much, is making sure that every kid has a great time at the rink,” an emotional Clayton said.
It also recognizes his family’s involvement at the facilities over time.
The bar upstairs has also been renamed ‘Clayton’s Corner.’
He says he’s been working full-time there for 28 years.
“They asked me to go full time, I had been working there part time in the winter, and at a fish plant in the summer. I went full time in 1997, and the rest is history.”
He was presented with a street sign ahead of the Mariners game Saturday night with family and friends in attendance.
Clayton says it was a surprise, and it’s hard to put into words what it means to him.
