While temperatures in many parts of South Western Nova are above freezing, there are reports of black ice forming.
It’s occurring mainly on inland roads.
Don Houston of the provincial transportation department in Yarmouth says the road temperatures are colder than the air temperature
so when the rain hits the asphalt it freezes.
He says drivers may be lulled into a false sense of security.
“A lot of the vehicles now have temperature censors in their vehicles. They’re looking at plus 4 or 5 and thinking everything is good. But it’s the surface temperatures that can really cause havoc.”
Houston says right now all salt trucks are out.
