Argyle municipal council again discussed the location of the new administration building Tuesday night.
There are three options available.
Build on a piece of municipally owned land near the current municipal office.
Locate it in the business park which is owned by the Municipality of Argyle, or request expressions of interest
from the public to sell land to the municipality.
Warden Richard Donaldson says the building committee has made a recommendation to council.
“There’s a suggestion from the building committee that was set up in late summer to look at locations. They’re leaning favourably towards a
piece of property we own on the Courthouse Road just east of the present building.
Warden Donaldson says when they have a full council in attendance in January they’ll discuss that recommendation and see
where they go from there.
Four of the nine councillors were not present at last night’s meeting.
“That’s a project that’s been happening relatively fast and we just want to make sure we get it right the first time.”
According an engineer’s estimate provided to the municipality, a new building would cost around $2.3 million.
Council has identified a number of short-comings with the current building including a lack of wheelchair access on either floor, numerous code violations, including lack of adequate fire separation, insufficient ceiling height in the basement, insufficient and inefficient wiring, heat, and lighting
and insufficient parking space, paving requires re-work Insufficient storage and office space.
