While most of the time will likely be spent talking carbon emissions, health care issues are also on the agenda.
Health Minister Leo Glavine says he hopes the feds will reconsider their plan to reduce health transfer payments .
“If it’s firm that we have to transition to three percent or somewhere in between on the health transfer, our ask is give us another year or two at six percent.”
Glavine says transfer payment levels top his list, but there are many other issues to discuss as well.
“The federal minister wants to have something in the accord around mental health and pharmaceuticals and innovation. We’re very well positioned in all of those areas.”
Glavine says the province will be accountable for every dollar in transfer payment.
This is the first time in years the federal government has even approached the subject of health care at the first minister’s meeting.
