More exterior renovations to businesses will be completed in the spring.
The town of Yarmouth’s facade society is expanding the program to reach Vancouver and Argyle Streets, including side streets.
The society matches the work up to $5,000.
To roll out ‘Phase 2’ even further, they have requested $150,000 in the town’s 2017-2018 budget.
Mayor Pam Mood says it’s about more than a new paint job.
“Everything is driven by economic development. More people are encouraged that the town is stepping up and taking ownership. People are purchasing those businesses, moving in. It creates jobs. It’s a win-win for everybody.”
42 facade program applications have been approved so far, and 25 projects have been completed.
Another 14 are due in the spring.
Society President/Chair Gil Dares says he’s heard from many business owners who say business has increased thanks to the work done.
“We’re looking forward to a renewed budget which will enable us to approach business owners from fountain to fountain and east and west of main Street as well.”
The town has referred the facade program to its budget process.
