A special ceremony to honour our country’s peacekeepers.
It’s happening at the Maple Grove Afghanistan war memorial Saturday at 11 a.m.
Andre Boudreau with the Wedgeport Legion says the commemoration honours nine peacekeepers who died in 1974 when a plane was shot down in Syria.
“It’s good for us to remember them. A lot of us have served on UN missions. It’s always nice to remember those we’ve lost,” said Boudreau.
Boudreau says the ceremony will be similar to Remembrance Day.
“We’ll speak about Canadians in UN peacekeeping, and we’ll have the Last Post and lay a wreath.”
It’s open to everyone.
August 9 is National Peacekeepers Day, and remembers nine Canadians who died when their plane was shot down in Syria in 1974.
