Roads in Digby County are deteriorating.
That’s according to the municipality, who expressed concerns of a lack of funding from the Department of Public Works and staff vacancies.
In a letter to the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, Warden Linda Gregory says it’s preventing timely completion of road improvement priorities.
She says issues in the winter aren’t leaving enough money for issues through the summer months, and it’s a safety issue.
Speaking after cabinet Thursday, Public Works minister Fred Tilley said he’d be happy to talk with the municipality.
“There are mechanisms to go through to make the department aware of those issues, so they can act on particular situations,” said Tilley.
He says the province is making significant investments in roads for all areas.
“We’ve done a lot over the last few years, including doubling of the RIM program, doubling of the gravel road program with a half-billion dollars in capital.”
Tilley adds that safety is the department’s number one priority.
