A local author has been nominated as the Liberal candidate for Queens-Shelburne in the next provincial election.
Vernon Oickle won the spot over Joan Bower.
He says even without a date set for the election, he’s already thinking about campaign strategy.
“I consider myself to be a great listener. That will be my top priority, just listening, getting out and talking to people giving them an opportunity to ask me questions and to pass along their concerns and issues.”
Oickle says he hopes to work with Bower once the campaign starts.
He says his writing will have to take a back seat for the next couple of years if he becomes the next MLA for the riding.
“It’s a commitment I’m making to myself and to the community that their issues will be front and center, so a lot of that would have to wait until I retire or whatever comes down the road.”
Oickle says he’s looking forward to going door-to-door and meeting people after the holidays.
The next election must be called by 2018 at the latest.
