People from across South Western Nova attended the lighting of the Municipality of Barrington’s Lobster Pot Tree
last night.
This is the seventh year for the tree.
There was definitely a festive mood in the air.
Suzy Atwood, the Tourism and Community Development Officer for the Municipality of Barrington says the tree is made up of over 200 recycled lobster pots.
“They’ve all seen the bottom of the ocean, they’ve all caught their shore of lobsters. It’s decorated this year with over 100 buoys. Some are in memory of fishermen who have passed on, some are in memory of fishermen who have been lost at sea and others represent boats that are out on the water today. Every buoy has its own story.”

Atwood says the tree was first buillt in 2009..
“It kind of evolved from there. Two years ago we decided to do a different thing with the buoys and we put a request out to the general public for a buoy from each of the boats. I think it’s great. It’s transformed. We have pictures and it has a different look each year. I think this year is the prettiest.”
Everyone was also treated to a great fireworks display. A beautiful sight over Barrington Bay.
