It’s playoff time in Barrington.
The Southwest Storm host East Hants in Game 1 of their best-of-three series Friday night.
The three-time defending Junior C league champs secured the last playoff spot in the league standings.
The Storm finished sixth in the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League standings with a 9-15-4-0 record, good for 22 points.
Head Coach Andrew Holland says they’re looking forward to a packed Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena.
“Even though we’re a little younger this year and we struggled a bit during the regular season, our confidence is at an all-time high. We had to win three in a row last weekend just to make it to the playoffs, and we did that,” said Holland.
Game 2 is Saturday in East Hants, if necessary a third game would be played there Sunday.
Holland says the Penguins are their biggest rival.
“We played them in the finals the last three years. They have some of the best offensive players in the league, so we’re going to have to be very tight defensively and clog up the neutral zone as much as we can.”
Even if the Storm don’t advance to the next round, more hockey is on the horizon.
The Storm will host the Maritime Junior C championships in Barrington starting April 24.
Ticket sales and more information will be available soon, says Holland.
