Construction of the new Yarmouth Elementary School is only just beginning.
You can expect activity at the site on Parade Street over the next couple of months.
Tri-County Regional School Board Director of Operations Steve Stoddart says work will stop temporarily over the winter.
“The schedule is to have the concrete work finished before the end of December. The contractors will leave, come back in the spring and begin full construction.”
Stoddart says there is excitement over what it’s going to look like.
“This is going to be a state-of-the-art school, unlike any other we have in Tri-County or maybe in the province, so I think people are really going to be excited to see this once when it gets going.”
He says the board will host a public meeting will be held in the near future to show the public what the plans are for the school and what it’s going to look like.
The school is set to open in September, 2019. The province awarded the tender to Avondale Construction in August at a cost of over $14 million.
