The best women’s hockey players in the world are in Halifax.
Canada takes on the United States in the Rivalry Series Thursday night at Scotiabank Centre.
Kenzie Lalonde, who will call the game on TSN says it could be a big night for Canada, who won two of the first three games of the series in November in the U.S.
“If Canada wins, they’ll win the Rivalry Series. And there is a trophy, so there is something to play for, not just bragging rights. The trophy will be in the house,” said Lalonde.
She says it’s special for Canada’s Blayre Turnbull (Stellarton) and coaches Troy Ryan (Spryfield) and Kori Cheverie (New Glasgow) as they return to their home province.
It also serves as a measuring stick for the two nations.
“This really is the final evaluation tool for Canada and the United States to see what they have for talent leading up to the 2025 World Championships, which will be held in April in Czechia,” adds Lalonde.
It’s also going to to be special for Lalonde, who became the first woman to call a QMJHL game with Eastlink Community TV in 2021 for the Halifax Mooseheads.
In November, she became the first woman to do NHL play-by-play on TSN for the Ottawa Senators.
“That rink is probably one of my favourites ever. It has such great history. Any event held there is rocking, you know it’s going to be a good time. It will truly be a full circle moment for me, and we’ll get to see the best women’s hockey on the planet.”
Tickets are going fast for the game in Halifax.
The teams wrap up the series on Saturday in Summerside, PEI.
