What’s behind the province’s big minimum wage increase?
It’s going up by $1.30 this year to $16.50 on October 1.
That’s above and beyond what a minimum wage review committee recommended.
Service Nova Scotia Minister Nolan Young says it’s about finding a balance.
“We recognize there’s unprecedented inflationary issues that are happening right now. It’s about striking the right balance to support both,” said Young.
He says the province has to do what they can to support businesses and employees.
In a release Wednesday, the Canadian Federation for Independent Business said the increase will be a blow to small businesses who are operating on razor-thin margins in difficult economic conditions.
