A name has been chosen for the Mariners Centre expansion.
The new building that will house a pool, walking track and fitness centre will be called the ‘Credit Union Wellness Centre.’
The entire campus will be known as the ‘Credit Union Rec Plex.’
Fundraising campaign manager Kerry Muise says Coastal Financial Credit Union have been terrific partners.
“Part of it is going into the Mariners Centre health and wellness fund to be used for community operations, so every year they’re going to give about $15,000 to that fund, It helps with memberships and for people to access our facilities,” said Muise.
She adds they’ve given over $1 million to the project.
Muise revealed that the community has donated $9 million so far, and they’re looking to raise another million.
“We had a plan to follow from consultants initially to fundraise $2-3 million, but they didn’t know how generous our community is.”
The facility is expected to open in 2026.
Muise says credit union members will get a 25% discount on memberships.
The naming rights announcement was made during the first intermission of the Yarmouth Mariners game on Friday night.
