The Yarmouth Mariners fought hard, but couldn’t overcome the first-place Summerside Western Capitals.
The teams played twice in P.E.I. on the weekend, with the Caps taking both games, 4-0 Saturday and 6-3 Sunday.
Goaltender Thomas Fontaine made 34 saves in Saturday’s loss.
On Sunday afternoon, the Mariners fell behind 3-0 before rallying to tie it in the second period on goals by Ethan Johnson, Ryan Loveless and Keefe Marshall.
But the Caps would score the game winner early in the third. Fontaine was named second star of the game with 55 saves.
The Mariners fell to 12-19-0-1, and are seven points back of Pictou County for the final playoff spot in the Eastlink South Division.
The MHL Trade Deadline is coming up this weekend.
The Mariners are back in action Saturday night against the Crushers and Sunday afternoon against Summerside, both at home.
