Lobster fishermen were permitted to start hauling their traps at 12:01 this morning.
The fishery in LFA’s 33 and 34 got underway yesterday morning after a one day delay due to weather.
Sub-Lt. Blair Gilmore of the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says there have been no calls to the rescue centre as of 5:50am.
He said a vessel broke down off Yarmouth but was towed to port by another fishing boat and no was was in any danger.
The largest fishing area, LFA 34 has 979 license holders and had a landed value last year of over $423 million.
There are approximately 700 license holders in LFA 33, and harvested a landed value of over $150 million last year.
Boats are crewed by three to four people, meaning thousands of people could be on the waters off South Western Nova Scotia.
