The Mayor of Shelburne is praising a visit from five Tall Ships to the area.
Karen Mattatall says the Rendez-Vous 2017 Regatta in Shelburne Harbour drew 3,000 people to the waterfront on Monday.
Mattatall says she is expecting yesterday’s visitor numbers to be similar.
She says it was incredible for Shelburne to be chosen as one of the destinations.
“Shelburne has a unique harbour, it’s the third best natural harbour in the world. The ships were well received, the captains and crews were very interactive with the community and those who wished to see them, It was a great two days.”
Mattatall says some working people were disappointed that they didn’t have time to tour the ships, but she says that was out of the town’s control.
Mattatall says it would be great to have the tall ships back again, but it wouldn’t be for a few years.
“This was a Canada 150 project, they made sure this happened and footed the bill. It’s very expensive to have the tall ships. If we wanted them again, which is a good possibility, we’d have to start planning relatively soon. It would likely be five years or more.”
Meanwhile, seven tall ships are in Digby today once again.
They are scheduled to sail to Annapolis Royal at 3:30pm.
