Sgt. Mark MacPherson says they’ve increased their focus because drivers seem to be paying less attention to the rules of the road.
“If you come to the number of accidents that we attend because of speeding, cell phone use, impaired driving. You know, a lot of people aren’t getting it. They need to slow down.”
MacPherson says drivers just aren’t getting the message to slow down and drive safely.
“The day of the warning is going by the wayside cause we’re just getting so tired of trying to educate people and enforce the laws and no-one seems to be getting it.”
MacPherson says RCMP are dedicating blocks of time to road safety.
He adds, even officers traveling between calls are keeping their eyes open and their radar on.
MacPherson says the increased focus on road safety isn’t taking them away from answering other calls.
He hopes their increased vigilance will make the streets safer for everyone.
