A decision on the start of lobster fishing season in LFA 33 and 34 is expected tomorrow.
At 11am, industry representatives will hold a conference call with DFO and Environment Canada on expected conditions for Dumping Day on Monday for LFA 34.
A conference was held earlier today, but it was still too early to make the call.
Dwayne Surette, Area Chief of Resource Management for DFO in Southwest Nova says they have to follow protocol.
“If it’s over 26 knots of wind, it calls for a delay in the season. We had a call today for LFA 34, and the weather is close enough that we aren’t going to be able to make a decision today. We have another call at 11:00am tomorrow, take a look at the weather, keeping safety in mind we’ll make the decision tomorrow.”
A conference call on conditions for LFA 33 heading into Monday was held at 4, and they pushed a decision back until tomorrow at 11:30am.
