The holiday season kicks off in a Yarmouth County community tonight.
The annual tree lighting service in Carleton takes place at the Cenotaph Park at 7pm.
The Girl Guides will be caroling and serving hot chocolate at the Carleton Fire Hall after the lighting.
On Sunday at 2pm, the annual Carleton Santa Parade takes place.
Organizer Cheryl Bethune says it starts at the Sleepy Paws Inn on Highway 203.
“It’ll travel from the Inn to the Carleton Fire Hall. After the parade, there will be hot chocolate given out and Santa will be there giving out candy canes to the kids.”
Bethune says Santa will be joined in the parade by fire trucks.
She says a few hundred people usually come out to watch the parade.
