The Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development is preparing parents for a teachers strike.
A bulletin has been posted to the South Shore and Tri-County Regional School Board websites.
The notice states the department is preparing for a strike by principals and teachers as early as December 5.
The strike deadline is December 3, but the union must give 48 hours notice before walking off the job.
Job action could include a province-wide strike or work-to-rule, which means employees continue to work but refuse to do certain activities outside of their job requirements.
The notice states local school board websites, classroom handouts and media will provide information of any potential interruption.
Parents are encouraged in the notice to start planning for the possibility that children may not be attending classes or before and after school activities after December 5.
The NSTU and province agreed earlier this week to meet with a conciliator in an effort to avoid a strike.
