The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners fell 3-2 in Truro Saturday night.
The Bearcats scored two quick goals in the third period to go up 3-1 and never looked back.
Forward Ty Power, in his Mariners debut was named third star with a goal and an assist.
Power was acquired from the Miramichi Timberwolves on Friday.
It was also the debut of defenseman Preston Kugler, a player acquired from Saskatchewan last week.
The Mariners missed two of their top defensemen, Ryan Daley and Duncan McKie due to injury.
It was the first of six meetings between the South Division rivals this season.
The Mariners are back on the road this weekend, Friday night in Bridgewater and Sunday afternoon at Valley.
