The Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser aims to help at risk youth.
It’s happening this Saturday in Yarmouth in support of SHYFT Youth Services.
It’s their biggest fundraiser of the year.
Youth outreach worker Shanna Grant says they raised about $20,000 last year.
“As a non-profit, we start every year with a deficit. This fundraiser is how we make up for that, and it’s really about bringing the community together,” said Grant.
She says youth homelessness looks different in rural communities, and they want to help as many people as possible.
“You don’t physically see homelessness in rural areas, because many choose to hide in the woods. So it’s nice for youths to be able to have somewhere to go, our staff our incredibly supportive and well-trained.”
The event includes a two or five kilometre walk, and chili will be served afterwards at NSCC.
