The province’s education minister is asking a conciliator to invite the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union back to the negotiating table.
Karen Casey says it’s important to look at how both sides can move forward.
“We have said all along that we are prepared to continue to talk to the union. They have indicated that they want to talk. Somebody had to make the move to bring them together and I’m happy that we were the ones that did.”
Casey says the government needs to find a resolution and keep the students in the classroom.
She is optimistic that this could be a step in that direction.
“And determine what can be accomplished with a conciliator and so we’ll wait for his decision as to what, when and how we can move forward.”
She says parents are anxious and they need to determine how they can reassure them in case there is strike action by the union.
Meanwhile, the Nova Scotia Teacher’s Union has agreed to go back to the table.
