With the opening of the lobster fishery in Southwestern Nova Scotia less than two weeks away, the Yarmouth County Ground Search
and Rescue Team will be conducting a training exercise this weekend it hopes will never become a reality.
The exercise will be held Saturday from 10am to 4pm in the Comeau’s Hill to Chebogue Point areas.
Corey Burke, president of the Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue Team says Saturday’s exercise is a large
multi-team coastline search.
“The RCMP has been invited. CASARA will be involved along with the Barrington and Clare Area ground search teams. It’s a big exercise.”
Burke says flares, live and mannequin subjects will be used Saturday afternoon and reminds the public that it is only a training
exercise and not a real emergency.
He says the event is very important to keep up with training for shoreline and multi-team searches, mass casualty and communications.
